Monday: getting started on Topic 5 - PPT and notes
Tuesday: we will go over your Topic 1-3 quiz so you can record the correct answers on your copy. We will also finish our work with Chemical Solitaire tomorrow and discuss strategies for the game and how you organize elements. Wednesday: We will continue talking about the periodic table, going over key concepts such as atomic number, atomic weight, and calculations of proton, neutron, and electron numbers in atomic structures of various elements! You will have a quiz on topics 4 and 5 on Tuesday next week. It will likely just be multiple choice. More info to come. Thursday: Please arrive at school at 7:30 am, We will be returning to school around 4:15-4:30 pm. **Thursday, we are going on an important field to a youth summit conference called Canada 2067. Here is a letter to all students participating from the organizers of this conference. Please note- look through and read this letter carefully as there is a chance to win a Best Buy gift card! Hello class, See below for the online activity. Please record your answers on the word document in RED. Please submit your work to me on D2L - I will be collecting it as homework. Let the sub know if there is too much or too little work. Thanks - VK :)
Yeserday we did a lab where you observed both physical and chemical properties and changes of five different substances. We did not get time to do the mystery substance. I will likely to this as a demonstration next week. Please have your lab write up done on Tuesday. You need to include the following: a title, a question, a procedure (you can write 'refer to lab handout'), a materials list (you can also say 'refer to lab handout'), your observations table with completed observations filled in for each of the five different chemicals (not the unknown, as we didn't do it), and your conclusions. For your Discussion, please do questions 20-22, as well as answering the following questions for your conclusion: - if you were given one of the five substances and you didn't know what it was, what test or tests would you use to give your best guess which of the five substances it is? - what were some of the chemical changes you observed? Remember to include those indicators we discussed in class that a chemical reaction has occurred.
